The Pierre Governor tennis team would be in sixth place as a team over the first day of the 2025 State Tennis Tournament in Sioux Falls with a few still in contention for a state championship.
All singles competitors will play again on Tuesday, but Eliza Mayer in flight three, Amara Dell in flight four and Adrian Hand in flight five have reached the semifinals in their respective flights. Breanna Tedrow in flight one and Gemma Stangeland in flight six will compete for fifth place and Elise Bowers in flight two would drop her first round match, but win the consolation semifinal to reach the consolation championship with a 10-0 sweep.
In doubles, Tedrow and Dell in flight one will play for fifth place as the sixth seed would go 2-1 on the day beating the seventh seed Lennox to reach the fifth place finals. In flight three, Hand and Stangeland would reach the semifinals, but the team from Vermillion, the 10 seed in the flight would upset the seven, two and then the three seed of Hand and Stangeland to reach the championship in the flight. The duo will play for third place. Bowers and Mayer in flight two would finish at 0-2 as they are the only flight to be eliminated after the first day of the state tournament.
Heading into the second day Pierre is in sixth with a total of 178 points, 53 ahead of Huron. Sioux Falls Christian has 360 points to pace Class A through the first day.
