The Pierre Governors had the ball on the five yard in the final seconds of the game, but were unable to score on fourth and three and would fall to the O’Gorman Knights 27-23.
Pierre opened up the scoring with a 49 yard touchdown catch from Kaleb Lounsbury to Carter Schiefelbein as the two would grab a second touchdown later for 73 yards as the Govs led 7-0 and 23-7 at half time. Carter Merrill would have a touchdown run of 27 yards as he once again broke the century mark on the ground. But in the second half, O’Gorman would score on the opening drive and then picked up a touchdown on the final play of the third quarter to make 23-20 Pierre. Chace Hermanson, who threw for 318 yards on 34-41, would get a five yard touchdown jet sweep pass with exactly four minutes remaining to give the Knights the first lead of the night. The Govs got the ball all the way to five, forced OG to use all their timeouts, but stalled out on fourth and three with just 15 seconds remaining in the game.
Pierre is now 3-3 and have lost all three games within a score, while O’Gorman is now 4-2 on the year. The Governors will start the final third of the season on Friday hosting the Sturgis Scoopers. Coverage begins at 6:30 with kickoff at 7:00 on KCCR and on YouTube at KCCR Sports.
