PIERRE, (KCCR) — A Fort Thompson man will spend two years in federal prison after being convicted of Abusive Sexual Contact with a child. U-S Attorney Alison Ramsdell says 44 year-old John Thompson was sentenced by U-S District Judge Eric Schulte to two years in prison with five years of supervised release after the prison term. Thompson was indicted on the charge by a federal grand jury in November of 2024. He pleaded guilty to the charge in June. Ramsdell says Thompson had fondled the genitals of a boy under the age of twelve within the Crow Creek Sioux Indian Reservation some time during August of 2010. Ramsdell did not say if the assault was a one-item incident or if the abuse had taken place multiple times within the August 2010 time from. The U-S Attorney’s Office prosecuted the case as a result of the Major Crimes Act, which mandates certain violent crimes alleged to have occurred in Indian Country be prosecuted at the federal level. Thompson was immediately taken by the U-S Marshals Service to begin his two-year prison term.
