The Sully Buttes Chargers had to deal with a big offensive and defensive line for the Hitchcock Tulare Patriot, so they threw over it, using the pass in the first half, and a mix of run and pass in the second to roll to a 52-12 victory over the Patriots on their homecoming night in Tulare.
Quarterback Wesley Wittler threw for 261 yards on 14 of 16 passing for the night. Wittler only ran the ball one tim, and that resulted in a 26 yard TD in the fourth quarter. Senior running back Kadyn Westergren, who had only 10 yards rushing in the first half, found his rhythm in the second and finished with 154 yards on the ground. Sully Buttes racked up 441 total yards of offense for the game. Hitchcock Tulare had impressive drives, but had costly penalties and miscues on the snap. The Patriots had a respectable 321 yards total offense, with 265 of that on the ground.
The Chargers led 22-0 at the half, thanks to a couple of Wittler to Jett Yackley connections for touchdowns, and a Wittler to Gavin Colson score just before half. In the third quarter both teams came out roaring, with two Patriot TD’s on the ground and the Chargers answered with a Wittler to Easton Moore seven yard pass and score, and two Westergren rushing TD’s. The Wittler rush put the continuous clock in motion to run the game to it’s conclusion.
The 3-0 Chargers are back at home Friday for a big matchup with rival Gettysburg, while the Patriots head into their bye week at 1-3. Be sure to catch Sully Buttes twice next week, Thursday at Presho for Charger/Lyman Raider volleyball, and the Battlers and Chargers Friday night, both on Country 95.3FM.
