
PIERRE, (KCCR) — The Capital Area United Way is holding a kick-off event this weekend for its 2026-2026 fundraising campaign. The kick-o ff is a family-friendly Tailgate event Sunday, September 14th at Larkspur Landing Event Center in Pierre. The kick-off event starts at 11 am with a free will donation lunch, activities and a campaign preview, all of which leads into a live viewing of the Seattle Seahawks-Pittsburg Steelers game featuring Pierre native Gray Zabel. The Capital Area United Way 2025-2026 campaign theme is “United Is The Way” Those attending the kick-off event will enjoy a tailgate-style meal, view the Campaign kick-off video and hear presentations on the impact giving to United Way in central South Dakota makes. The event will include youth-focused activities such as a football toss, bounce house, book station and coloring contest featuring Gray Zabel. An autographed Gray Zabel jersey will be raffled off during the event. The event is free to attend. Executive Director Becky Spoehr says the kick-off will bring all of the things that make the community special together at one time; food, football and a shared commitment to helping each other.
