PIERRE, (KCCR) — A Pierre man has reached a plea deal in a case of alleged sexual contact with a child. Between two court files, Matthew Tople pleaded guilty to Attempted Sexual Contact with a Child Under 16 and Possession of a Controlled Substance, which was methamphetamine. He also pleaded guilty to Sexual Exploitation of a Minor. All other charges including Hiring for Sexual Activity and a Part II Habitual Offender Information were dismissed in the plea deal. Tople looked down as Hughes County State’s Attorney Casey Deibert read a factual basis statement to Sixth Circuit Judge Christina Klinger detailing how Tople repeatedly touched the 11 year-old victim’s genitals through her underwear. The victim reported to police at least 10 to 12 instances of the abuse. On all of the charges Tople could face over 14 years in prison. He will also be placed on the South Dakota Sex Offender Registry. Sentencing for Tople is tentatively set for late November.
