In a 180 degree turn from Tuesday night the Sully Buttes Charger volleyball team came alive, but could not overcome a strong Miller Rustler team, losing 25-17, 25-16, and 25-19 Thursday night in Onida.
The Rustlers, coached by Linda Deboer, have veteran depth, height, and experience in their corner, but the Chargers were unfazed, as they fought for control in all three matches. Once again, there were hitting errors, but those numbers were reduced dramatically. In fact, Sully Buttes led for a period in the second and third sets, only to see it slip away.
Leading the way were seniors Cateri Yellowhawk and Scottlynn Kinney, who both showed strong performances at the net and in the back row.
The Rustlers were led by seniors Kahlyn Anderberg, Kate Lichty and Paige Werdel, along with rock solid defense from senior libero Jolie Palmer.
The Rustlers up their record to 3-1, while the Chargers drop to 2-4 on the season. Next up for Sully Buttes is a home match next Tuesday against Ipswich, while the Rustlers host Class B powerhouse Warner, also on Tuesday.
Be sure to catch Sully Buttes on your home for Charger sports, Country 95.3FM, with DT Meyer on the call.
