The Pierre Governor volleyball team would lead pretty much from wire to wire on Thursday, beating the Douglas Patriots 25-19, 25-19 and 25-12 for the first win of the season.
Pierre had five aces in the first set from Hadley Hart as she finished the night with eight in total and the Govs really took control midway through the first set when the first 20 points of the contest were back and forth. While Douglas lost by six in the first two sets, Pierre pulled away and kept the Patriots at arms length through the first two sets before putting the hammer down in the third set. While the Govs didn’t have any hitter with double digit kills, they did have nine players in total record at least a kill with Ally Keyes leading the way with seven, the match high. Paige Sporrer added five as Pierre also had 13 aces on the evening. Douglas was led by Jayden Gray’s five kills, but the Patriots fall to 0-8.
Pierre improves to 1-3 on the season and will be back on the road on Saturday as they take on the Mitchell Kernels. Coverage will begin at 2:00 with first serve at 2:30 on KCCR and on YouTube at KCCR Sports with Jon Winkler on the call.
