It’s the halfway point of the Pierre Governor soccer season as the Governors will host the Watertown Arrows in a boys and girls doubleheader this afternoon from the PILC Fields.
The Governor boys will play first as they come in at 2-2-2 on the season splitting the two games over the weekend. Pierre lost 3-1 to Stevens, but played a dominant 80 minutes on Saturday shutting out the Central Cobblers. Caiden Ahartz and Jacoby LaRoche scored two goals on Saturday and Hekmat Ghaznavi had a goal and two assists over the two games with Carter Templeton getting his first shutout of the season. They will get a strong test against Watertown who is a high scoring team. They are 3-1-1 on the season and are averaging nearly five goals per game. They tied Tea at 0-0, lost to Brookings 3-2, but have scored at least five goals in each of its three wins including a 10-0 win over Douglas and 7-0 win over Yankton. Pierre has tied both Brookings and Yankton, the two common opponents.
The Governor girls are hoping to carry the momentum of the last five minute comeback on Saturday to Central into a full 80 minute game today against the Arrows. Pierre will face the 3-2 Arrows as they are 11th in the standings and the Governors sit atop the AA standings at 4-0-1. Technically, as long as the game is made up between Pierre and Stevens, this isn’t the halfway point yet for Pierre, but still can treat it like the second half starts after this game. The Arrows have won its last two games including a 3-1 win over Brookings who Pierre beat 3-2. The Arrows lost to Yankton 4-2 where Pierre won 2-0.
Kickoff of the boys game will be at 4:00 with the girls game to follow at the PILC Fields in Pierre.
