The Pierre Governor soccer teams had to battle the elements on both Friday and Saturday as the Governor boys were able to play both games losing to Stevens 3-1, but winning 4-0 on Saturday to Central. The Governor girls would have Friday’s game canceled but would comeback and win Saturday 3-2.
On Friday, the boys would play first which would be benefited to actually playing the game, but the Governors would drop it 3-1 as Hekmat Ghaznavi would get the only goal of the game for Pierre but he would help assist for two goals on Saturday in the win. Jacoby LaRoche would be the benefactor to Ghaznavi’s passes as LaRoche scored both of his goals from his assists. Caiden Ahartz would also score twice with LaRoche picking up an assist and Carter Templeton would get the shutout for the Governors. Pierre is now 2-2-2.
On the girls side, Pierre didn’t get the chance to play Stevens on Friday with the storm coming through and without any lights, the game was quickly called off and the Govs would have to wait until Saturday. Pierre started slow as they trailed 2-0, but Aubrey Fischer would feed Lexie Hillmer to beat the goalkeeper to cut the deficit to one with just five minutes remaining in the game. Hillmer would then tie the game with just two minutes remaining which was set up by Katelyn Taylor. Then a foul just outside the box and Hillmer would perfectly place the ball on the foot of Natalie Flottmeyer and she would strike with just 90 seconds remaining and a fury of Governor goals would lead Pierre to the 3-2 win on an unbelievable comeback. The Governor girls remain unbeaten with the win at now 4-0-1. Friday’s game is still to be determined on a make up date.
The Governors remain at home on Tuesday when they host the Watertown Arrows. The boys will play first at 4:00 with the girls game to follow at the PILC Fields in Pierre.
