The Pierre Governor soccer teams will be at home this weekend as they face the Rapid City schools at the PILC fields on Friday and at Hollister Field on Saturday.
The Governor girls will have a tough matchup to start the weekend with the 3-0-1 Stevens Raiders. Stevens tied Yankton 2-2 but since then have won three straight including two shutouts, beating O’Gorman 3-2 and dominating Mitchell and Huron. Pierre then faces Rapid City Central on Saturday as the Cobblers are 2-2 with wins over Huron and Mitchell but have lost to both Yankton and O’Gorman. Pierre is sitting atop the standings of Class AA starting this week at 3-0-1 and have found sharing success to begin the season.
The Governor boys also have a tough start to the weekend facing the 4-0 Stevens Raiders. Stevens has scored at least three goals in their four wins and have two shutouts as they are atop the boys standings at the beginning of the week. Stevens has a 5-1 win over 3-1 O’Gorman. Then the Governors will face the 0-2-2 Central Cobblers who has scored just twice heading into the weekend. The Cobblers tied Huron 0-0 and Mitchell 1-1 in the last two games, but both Central teams will face Aberdeen Central tonight before traveling to Pierre Saturday morning. The Governors are 1-1-2 and two wins can play big down the stretch of the season.
The Governor boys will play first both days as Friday will be at 4:00 with the girls to follow against Stevens at the PILC Fields. Saturday, Pierre boys will start at 10:00 AM against Central and the girls game to follow at Hollister Field. Saturday’s games will be on KCCR and on YouTube at KCCR Sports with Jon Winkler on the call. Coverage will start around 9:40.
