The Watertown Arrows would flex its muscles in the opening game of the season as they would sweep the Pierre Governors on Tuesday in Watertown, 25-16, 25-18 and 25-6.
Pierre did not lead in the first set and tried to rally against the Arrows, but couldn’t get past the hitting of Anna Hirtz and blocking of Reese Munger. Hirtz had five kills in the first set and Munger had three blocked shots points totaling five in the match. Hirtz finished with nine kills in total. Pierre led early in the second set, but could not maintain the lead as Carighan Klatt would get five kills in the set of her nine to help lead the charge for the Arrows. The wheels fell off in the third set with a 19 point win for Watertown to sweep the Govs. Ellie Thury would lead the way with 11 kills in total. Pierre was led by Paige Sporrer with five kills while Alyssa Loe and Marena Buschbom had two each.
Pierre will travel to Rapid City for two games this weekend, first taking on Stevens on Friday and then Central on Saturday. The Stevens game will be at 8:00 Central Time and then Saturday at 1:30.
