The Pierre Governor golf team would get the season started on Monday with five new faces making their varsity debuts as the Govs would place ninth overall as a team in Brandon.
Tate Stoeser, the lone returning member from last year’s team would finish the highest tying for 28th shooting 14 over par, 85. Caleb Hutton and Ryker Edson would both be tied for 37th at 19 over par, 90 while Matt Mosteller had a 91 in 40th place to round out the four scoring. Rigley Kulesa would shoot a 93 and Matthew Eberhard a 94 for the six golfers in total. Brandon Valley’s Carter Peterson would win the first invite of the season with a three under par, 68 while Tyson Lunn of Brookings, Nick Simon of O’Gorman and Max Stemwedel of Watertown would all be at one under par, 70 tying for second place.
As a team, Pierre would be at 72 over par, 356 and finished within 20 shots of Tea for eighth place and 21 back of Aberdeen Central who was in seventh. Brandon Valley would win the team score of just six over par as a team, beating Watertown by 12 shots.
Pierre will travel across the state to Rapid City today to play at Meadowbrook Golf Course.
