The Pierre Governor soccer teams will be on the road on the first day of school as they face the Roosevelt Roughriders in the third game of the season.
The Governor boys team will look for its first win after falling to Aberdeen Central and tying Brookings in the opening weekend of the season. Pierre scored a goal each. Roosevelt is 0-1 to begin the season with a 4-0 loss to Jefferson. Last year, Pierre beat the Roughriders at home with a 4-0 victory as Roosevelt was 4-5-4 falling in the first round to O’Gorman.
The Governor girls are 2-0 to start the season with 3-1 and 3-2 wins over Aberdeen Central and Brookings which included a final minute win on a PK against the Bobcats on Saturday. Roosevelt was dominant in its opening game win, taking down Jefferson 8-1. Roosevelt lost to Aberdeen Central in the quarterfinals last season and graduated six seniors. Pierre beat the Roughriders 2-1 last year at home.
The boys will play first at 4:00 with the girls game to follow at Roosevelt High School. Pierre will have its home opener on Thursday against Yankton at Hollister Field.
