The Oahe Zap needed at least a split to feel good about chances of playing for the Independence League Championship, and they did earn the split with a 7-5 win Sunday night over the Spearfish Sasquatch.
The Zap lost game one 11-6 to start the final four road games of the summer, but a four run sixth and three run eighth propelled Oahe to a massive win. Spearfish grabbed a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second, but Andrew Phillips had a two RBI single to give the Zap a 3-2 lead in the sixth after Mason Lang had an RBI sacrifice fly. Jack Daily drove in the fourth run of the inning to push the lead to two. Then, in the eighth two errors would score two runs and Gavin Fraser hit into a fielder’s choice to give the Zap a 7-2 lead, which at the time was comfortably in front. However, a three run triple by Kyle Phin made it 7-5 in the bottom of the eighth, but Drew Drake had a 1-2-3 ninth to finish off the win.
Oahe is now 24-22 in the summer and will start a brief two game series with Fremont on Monday and wrap up on Tuesday before hosting Hastings in the final two games of the season this weekend. First pitch Monday night in Fremont is at 7:05.
