PIERRE, (KCCR) — A Pierre man, found guilty by a Hughes County jury earlier this year, will now spend the rest of his life in prison. South Dakota Attorney General Marty Jackley says 25 year-old David Shangreaux, Jr. was sentenced Tuesday morning to a life prison term with no possibility of parole. A jury found Shangreaux guilty of Second Degree Murder in April for the death of 17 year-old Evie Maxey of Rapid City in late November of 2023. Pierre police responded to an apartment on Brule Street on November 30th of 2023 to a disturbance call. Once on scene, officers discovered Maxie in a bathroom with multiple stab wounds. Shangreaux was charged in the case with First Degree Murder and Aggravated Assault. Second Degree Murder is a Class B felony with a mandatory of life prison sentence. Jackley announced early in the case he would not seek the death penalty against Shangreaux.
