FORT PIERRE, (KCCR) — The South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks Commission has approved an amendment to an agreement it has with the City of Fort Pierre. Sean Blanchette with the G-F-and-P says Fort Pierre’s Missouri River shoreline is actually leased to the city by Game, Fish and Parks from the Corps of Engineers….
Blanchette says the construction of the Tatonka Trail pedestrian bridge is part of the reason for amending the lease….
The lease will be extended for another 20 years, expiring in 2048 for a total of 40 years. Some commission members asked why Fort Pierre can’t just take outright control of the land…
Blanchette says Game, Fish and Parks has similar agreement in place with communities along the Missouri River including with the City of Pierre.
