The Capital City Little League, hosting the state tournament at Griffin Park in Pierre, would fall in its first game of the tournament, 8-1 to Brandon Valley Wednesday evening.
Brandon Valley would get two runs in the top of the first and would hold serve until the top of the fourth when they would put up five runs to extend the lead to 7-0 and add another run in the fifth. Pierre’s lone run came on a bases loaded walk in the bottom of the sixth by Dayson Carroll. Carroll had two of Pierre’s six hits including Pierre’s lone extra base hit, a double. Grayson Moore also had two hits while Coby Danburg and Colt Wariner each had a hit. Wariner would take the loss on the mound giving up seven runs, only one earned, on four hits with three walks and five strikeouts. Danburg threw the final two innings allowing just a run on two hits with a walk and two strikeouts.
Pierre will play in an elimination game on Friday at 7:00 against the winner of the Harney and Canyon Lake which will play Thursday at 6:00. Sioux Falls beat Canyon Lake 4-1 in the first game of the night as both teams opened their state tournaments. Sioux Falls will play Brandon Valley, who is already 2-0 in the tournament, at 5:00 on Friday.
