Pierre Post 8 will have two straight afternoon games starting this afternoon hosting Watertown Post 17 and then facing Jamestown and Detroit Lakes in Jamestown, North Dakota on Saturday.
Post 8 is coming into the weekend at 2-0 so far this week with wins over Rapid City Post 320, sweeping the Stars 9-6 and 9-4 with two big six innings. The competition gets tougher today against the number two team in the state, Watertown. Watertown is already in the state tournament as they are the host team and won’t have to win a first round playoff matchup. While they want a high seed, this doubleheader is a big one for the Eights who are trying to climb up to eighth place to host a best-of-three series. Pierre is 13-8 in South Dakota games but are chasing Brookings, Huron and even Harrisburg to try and get a top eight spot. Pierre still has another South Dakota doubleheader, against Brandon Valley next Thursday to close the season. Watertown is 13-4 in South Dakota games, but played yesterday against Marshall, Minnesota. Post 17 last played on July 1 against a South Dakota team, sweeping Huron 9-7 and 18-3.
Then on Saturday, the Eights will face Jamestown and Detroit Lakes in Jamestown, North Dakota. Two teams who the Eights have not seen before as Pierre will look for two out of state wins to conclude the busy week. Jamestown has played five games this week spanning Tuesday through Thursday while Detroit Lakes, Minnesota will have played four games, just like Pierre, heading into Saturday.
Coverage of Friday’s doubleheader will be at 10:45 this morning and then Saturday’s games in Jamestown at 12:45. All four games will be on KCCR and on YouTube at KCCR Sports with Jon Winkler on the call today and Dylan Simmons on the call tomorrow.
