This year the South Dakota Little League state tournament will take place in Pierre as the Capital City Little League will look to qualify for the Midwest Regional in front of the home fans.
It’s now the first step in reaching Williamsport, Pennsylvania for the Little League World Series shown on ESPN every year. The 12U All Stars play in a five team, double elimination tournament to determine the state championship. This is the first year there is no sub district tournament as all little leagues wanting to participate are qualified for the state tournament. Derek Johnson is the manager with assistant coaches Tony Blake and Colby Brakke. The 12U All Stars consists of Grayson Moore, Beckett Larson, Landry Blake, Coby Danburg, Bronson Schiefelbein, Maiz Johnson, Colt Warriner, Dayson Carroll, Dax Moreno, Soren Brakke and Skye Thorpe.
The tournament begins tonight at Griffin Park with Brandon Valley and Harney Little League playing the lone game of the day at 6:00. Then on Wednesday, Canyon Lake Little League and Sioux Falls Little League at 5:00 followed by the winner of the Brandon Valley/Harney game taking on the Capital City Little League at 7:00. There will be just one game played on Thursday, two games on Friday another game on Saturday and potentially two games on Sunday. Sunday will be the only day which a team can play two games in one day, it being for the state championship. The winner of the state tournament will travel to Whitestown, Indiana August 1-8 for the Midwest Regional Tournament.
