PIERRE, (KCCR) — A Lower Brule man convicted of assaulting a Tribal police officer has been sentenced to two years in federal prison. U-S Attorney Alison Ramsdell says 32 year-old Thaddeus James Grant was given a two year prison term by Judge Eric Schulte with three years of supervised release to follow. A federal grand jury indicted Grant in November of 2024. He pleaded guilty in March. Ramdell says on September 20th of 2024 two Bureau of Indian Affairs law enforcement officers attempted to arrest Grant because of a warrant within the Lower Brule Sioux Reservation. Grant actively resisted the officers attempts to arrest him by pulling his hands away and taking one officer to the ground with him. Tribal police had to use pressure point tactics to bring Grant into custody. Ramsdell did not say if any of the officers were specifically injured during the arrest. Grant was taken by the U-S Marshals Service to begin serving his sentence.
