PIERRE, (KCCR) — A Fort Thompson man will spend time in federal prison for being involved in the distribution of methamphetamine across central South Dakota Native American reservations. U-S Attorney Alison Ramsdell says 47 year-old Weston Big Eagle was sentenced last week to a 10 year federal prison term to be followed by five years of supervised release and a one-thousand dollar fine. He was convicted of Conspiracy to Distribute a Controlled Substance. A federal grand jury indicted Big Eagle in December of last year and he pleaded guilty to the charge in March. Ramsdell says Big Eagle was involved in a conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine from January of 2023 through December of 2023. Big Eagle was involved, with others, in the distribution of meth across the central South Dakota, including inside the boundaries of the Crow Creek and Lower Brule reservations. Big Eagle himself was linked to distributing over 500 grams of meth during the conspiracy. Big Eagle was turned over after sentencing to the U-S Marshals Service to begin is 10 year prison term.
