PIERRE, (KCCR) — As measles cases grow nationally and across South Dakota, the South Dakota Department of Health is deploying a series of mobile vaccination clinic across the state, including in central South Dakota. One such clinic is being held Monday at the Hughes County Public Health Office at 740 East Sioux Avenue. On Monday June 30th, a measles vaccination clinic will be held in Murdo from one-to-four PM at the Murdo Department of Transportation office in a WOW mobile clinical vehicle. Another clinic is being held in Dupree on Tuesday July 1st from one-to-two thirty at the Ziebach County Courthouse. Timber Lake will host a clinic in Dewey County at the Dewey County Public Health Officer on Fifth Avenue. So far, at least four measles cases have been confirmed in South Dakota. Measles vaccines are typically given at 12-to-15 months of age. A second dose is given at four-to six years of age. The vaccine is safe and highly effective at preventing measles infection, and two doses will usually produce lifelong immunity. If you are planning to travel internationally with children, M-M-R vaccines can be given to children starting at six months of age.
