Pierre Post 8 would fly back from a five run deficit to take game one beating the Westco Zephyrs 11-6 and then sweep day one 4-1 beating Laramie, Wyoming to open the Veterans Classic Tournament.
Post 8 would allow two runs in each of the first, second and third innings and were down 6-1 heading into the bottom of the third. Then the Eights scored four runs in each of the next two innings to take the lead as Ridge Leimbach, Parker O’Bryan and Grayson Hunsley each had RBIs in the bottom of the third and a wild pitch made it 6-5. Then Dawson Getz had a two RBI double to give the Eights a 7-6 lead and an error and another wild pitch helped another two runs to score to lead 9-6 after four. Carter Schiefelbein added another two RBI hit in the bottom of the sixth as Pierre scored the final 10 runs of the game to take it 11-6. Hudson Stoeser threw the first three innings as Schiefelbein picked up the win on the mound in relief as he didn’t allow a hit in the final four innings of work.
In game two, Brayden Houlette was magnificent on the mound. He had second and third with nobody out in the top of the first, but retired the heart of the order in order to get out of the jam. Post 8 received an RBI triple from Will Danburg in the bottom of the second to take a 1-0 lead before Charlie Simpson and Getz each had RBIs in the fifth and an error scoring another run to go up 4-0 through five. Houlette would allow a run in the sixth but he finished with six innings pitched allowing just the one run on three hits with four walks, three in the sixth, with two strikeouts as the super senior showed why he came back to pitch for Pierre. Getz earned the save with a hit and a strikeout in the seventh. Both Getz and Grayson Hunsley each had three hits on the day for the Eights who outhit their opponents in both games.
