The Pierre Governor baseball team finished in fifth place in the Class A standings, but have a tough draw facing Watertown in the first round of the playoffs.
It will be a best-of-three series playing all three games on Saturday in part to weather. While the Govs finished at 16-5 in South Dakota games and 17-6 overall, they face a tough Watertown squad who went 9-9 in South Dakota games and is the 12th seed. Pierre was eliminated by Watertown last summer in the legion season regional round. Watertown has one of the best pitchers in the state with Kaden Rylance who will most certainly throw one of the first two games in the series. The Govs will have to be sharp countering with its three headed pitching monster in Ridge Leimbach, Will Danburg and JJ Bucholz. All three have thrown the most innings, have an ERA under two and a WHIP under 1.5. Pierre will also need to be sharp cashing in on opportunities at the plate, as they are hitting .268 with runners in scoring position. Scott Raue, head coach of the Governors says you work all season to get to this point…
Raue understands this is not your average 12 seed and knows it starts with their ace Rylance…
Raue puts it simply for success this weekend…
Coverage of game one begins at 10:45 on Saturday with first pitch at 11:00. Game two and three will follow with all games on KCCR and on YouTube at KCCR Sports with Jon Winkler and Blake Dean on the call.
