The Pierre Governor tennis team would finish ninth in the ESD Tennis tournament on Tuesday as the Governors will now turn its attention to the state tournament next week.
After all but two flights were eliminated on day one, Noah Lueking was the last singles competitor left in ESD Tournament heading into day two. However, Lueking, the eight seed, was already 1-1 heading into the day, and lost in the consolation semifinal to Matthew Bertsch of Watertown 8-3 and was eliminated from the tournament. Pierre was unable to score any points in the singles flights at the conference tournament.
In doubles, only Lucas Hight and Jacob Leiferman remained playing on Tuesday. The top doubles flight would win it’s first match on Tuesday 8-7, but fall in the consolation championship 8-3.
Pierre finished 6.5 points, scoring its lone points in the doubles one win. Three teams scored below 15 points. Harrisburg would win the tournament with a 441.5 while Yankton placed second at 244.5
