The Muskegon Lumberjacks will be looking to do something never been done in their history, win the Clark Cup USHL championship. Former Oahe Capital Carter Sanderson and the Lumberjacks will begin the title series on Friday in Waterloo.
The Lumberjacks came into the playoffs as the fourth seed in the Eastern Conference and beat the Cedar Rapids 2-1 in the opening series. The loss in game two to even series is the last time the Lumberjacks have lost. Muskegon went on to beat the top seed in the Eastern Conference, the Youngstown Phantoms before then sweeping the Dubuque Fighting Saints. Now, they face the Waterloo Black Hawks for the USHL championship which begins on Friday in Waterloo.
Sanderson has just one point so far in the playoffs, but it was the game winning assist in game three of the Eastern Conference final as the Lumberjacks went up 2-1 in the 3-1 win. The best-of-five championship series runs Friday and Saturday in Waterloo for games one and two. Puck drop is at 6:35 both nights. Then the series will shift to Muskegon on Friday and Saturday, May 16-17 for games three and four. Friday’s game will be at 6:10 and Saturday’s at 5:10. Then the decisive game five, if necessary, will be back in Waterloo on Tuesday, May 20 at 6:35. All times are Central.
