PIERRE, (KCCR) — There is justice for Evie Maxey. A Hughes County jury has convicted 25 year-old David Shangreaux, Jr. of Second Degree Murder in a verdict reached Wednesday afternoon. Maxey was discovered by Pierre police on November 30th of 2023 with multiple stab wounds in the bathroom of a Pierre apartment. Shangreaux’s trial started Monday. It was scheduled to end according to Shangreaux’s file in the state’s E-Courts system May 6th. Shangreaux was facing three charges in the case; First and Second Degree Murder and an Aggravated Assault charge. Shangreaux was found incompetent to stand trial in April of last year however Shangreaux’s attorney Clint Sargent withdrew all pleas relating to mental illness in a March hearing in Pierre. Attorney General Marty Jackley did not seek the death penalty against Shangreaux in the case. Shangreaux facings life in prison. A sentencing date has not been set.
