Former Oahe Capital Carter Sanderson and the Muskegon Lumberjacks are on to the championship series of the USHL playoffs after a 3-1 win over the Dubuque Fighting Saints on Tuesday in Muskegon to sweep the series.
Vaclav Nestraseil would get his third goal of the playoffs to give Muskegon a 1-0 lead after the first period. Dubuque would tie the game at 1-1 early in the second period, but Sanderson would feed Matthew Van Blaricom to break the tie, giving the Jacks the lead 2-1 in which they wouldn’t relinquish. Tynan Lawrence would hit the empty net late in the third to seal it and send the Lumberjacks to the Clark Cup Championship where they will wait to see who they will play from the Western Conference. The assist is Sanderson’s first point of the playoffs and he finished with a +/- of 2 on the game.
Waterloo and Lincoln are tied in its series 1-1 with game three and four Wednesday and Thursday. Game five, if necessary, would be on Saturday.
