The last spring sport to get rolling will officially get underway on Thursday for the Pierre Governors as the golf team will travel to Harrisburg for the opening season invite.
The Governors will return Hadley Hart, Sittie Kasan and Drew Rechtenbaugh as both Hart and Rechtenbaugh are juniors while Kasan is now a sophomore. Andrea Mosteller was the only graduating senior from last year’s team and without any juniors last year, there are no seniors on the varsity roster for the Govs. Hart had the best finish for Pierre with a 98 finishing tied for 29th in the state tournament. Tiffany Benham, head coach of the Pierre Governors says she’s looking at Hart and Rechtenbaugh along with Kasan to be leaders heading into the season…
One of the challenges for the spring goal season is getting players into the groove of golf. Hitting in simulators or off turf doesn’t always give you the same benefit of being on the course and you can do so little before the course opens up. And with plenty of seventh and eighth graders on the team this year, Benham wants to gradually work them into the varsity invites…
As for the first invite for the ones who are traveling, Benham says they need to take this one in stride and treat it more like a preseason round…
Tee time is at 9:00 AM today from the Spring Creek Golf Course in Harrisburg.
