The Pierre Governor softball team would fall 9-4 to the Mitchell Kernels on Tuesday evening in the opening game of the 2025 season.
After a 2-0 Mitchell lead in the first, Pierre scored three times in the second to take the lead capped by Charlotte Hull’s two RBI single. A two run homer in the bottom of the second helped Mitchell regain the lead and never relinquished it. Pierre scored another run in the third to make it 5-4 as Ally Keyes drove in a run with a single, but a four run fourth was enough for Mitchell to close the door. Ailiyah Erickson had an RBI in the loss for Pierre while McKenzie Flottmeyer had a triple and Ireland Templeton a double. Flottmeyer went the first four innings giving up nine runs on nine hits with five walks and three strikeouts. Noel Kist finished the final two innings allowing just a walk and a hit with two strikeouts.
Pierre is right back in play on Thursday, the home opener, hosting the Yankton Gazelles. First pitch is at 4:00 from Riggs High School.
