Team South Dakota High School girls would pick up a 2-1 win over WEHL Southwest out of Wisconsin in the first game of the USA High School National Tournament on Wednesday.
Team SD would get on the board first just six minutes in as Sioux Falls’ Adriana Clark would net a power play goal assisted by Oahe’s Brylee Kafka and Kallee Behm. In the last two minutes of the first, the Mitchell girls would make it 2-0 as Reese Amick would score from Tristen Zimmer and Makenna Tronnes. Chloe Vikander made nine saves on 10 shots as Team SD would outshoot WEHL 43-10 in the game and went 1-5 on the power play. South Dakota had to kill of just one penalty against.
Team South Dakota will face Stockton Saint Mary’s Rams of California at 7:30 Central Time on Thursday. In Team SD’s pool, the other two teams to win of the six are South Dakota’s opponents the next two days. Stockton beat Team Anchorage 3-1.
