The Lyman Raiders are heading to the state tournament after a 58-56 nail-biter over the Gregory Gorillas at Todd County Tuesday in the SoDak 16.
Lyman dropped a 12 point game at home earlier in the season to the Gorillas, but were able to overcome the deficit on a neutral site. Neither team had a good handle on a lead throughout the game as the Raiders and Gorillas were tied 29-29 at the half. Gregory led by as many as nine in the third quarter, but the Raiders wouldn’t go away. Askel Ehlers had a big fourth to help propel the Raiders to the SoDak 16 win and clinching a spot in the Class B state tournament. Gregory had a long, but open look for three in the final seconds to try and win the game, but the shot was short and the rebound was never controlled after the missed shot.
The Raiders are now 17-6 and advance to face top seeded Castlewood in the first round of the State B tournament in Aberdeen.
