The Oahe Capital boys varsity team would not get the results they were hoping as they would fall to Sioux Falls West 6-1 and East 10-2 and were eliminated from the postseason tournament.
Oahe needed to get a point out of the two games and played well early on in both games, but couldn’t stop the persistent offense from both Sioux Falls teams unable to secure an overtime game or win. On Saturday night, it was 0-0 after the first period, but a delay of game penalty to start the second gave West a power play goal and three quick goals in the first three minutes of the period. It eventually turned into a 6-0 lead and run time as Dylan Dodson had the lone goal.
On Sunday, East would take a 2-0 lead late in the first period and then swell it up to a 7-1 advantage after two periods. Dodson and Keegan Kitts both had goals in the loss as Oahe finishes the season at 7-15. Jaxon Jungwirth made 15 saves on 22 shots through two periods before Sam Skjonsberg played the final period. For Jungwirth, Kitts, Wyatt Briggs, Camron Lee and Jesse Eldridge, their careers with the Capitals come to a close.
The girls and boys varsity tournaments will be coming up the next two weekends Thursday through Saturday. All games of the tournament will be on Capital City Rock and on YouTube at Capital City Rock Sports with Jon Winkler and Jim Lloyd on the call.
