Three Men Plead Guilty To Charges Connected To Fatal Stanley County UTV Crash

FORT PIERRE, (KCCR) — Three men have been sentenced for their roles in connection to a fatal U-T-V crash in Stanley County last September. The crash killed 18 year-old Hayden Monson of Fort Pierre and severely injured 19 year-old Jackson Robbennolt. Twenty year-old Chase Hansen was given a 100 day jail sentence, but saw 90 of those days suspended leading to a 10-day jail term by pleading guilty to Reckless Driving and Possession of Alcohol by a Minor. Ten days were suspended on the Possession charge. Twenty-one year-old Trey Frost of Fort Pierre was sentenced to 30 days in jail with retired Judge David Gienapp of Madison suspending 25 days, meaning Frost will serve five days on a charge of Furnishing Alcohol to a minor. Gienapp, a former Third Circuit Judge was brought in to avoid any conflicts of interest with Sixth Circuit Judges in the case. Hayden Monson’s father 46 year-old Josh Monson pleaded guilty to Furnishing Alcohol to a Minor for buying a 30-pack of beer for his son. Monson was given 100 days in jail but will only serve two-days after 98 days were suspended. Robert Robbennolt, Jackson’s father told Gienapp, Josh Monson has suffered enough through the loss of his son and recommended no jail time. All three defense attorneys noted in their comments the reason for the perceived delay in charges came from them asking their clients to not speak about the crash during the investigation. Stanley County States Attorney Thomas P. Maher says Hanson’s blood alcohol level was point-243 while Frost’s was point-143, Maher believes Hanson was driving the vehicle at the time, but Frost’s D-N-A was found on the control surfaces of the U-T-V.
