The Pierre Governors would beat the Huron Tigers with the running clock on Friday night 45-14 and Steve Steele would pick up his 100th career head coaching win on the night.
The Governors would score on the first three possessions of the game leading 21-8 late in the first half as Pierre opened up with an 11 play drive and Jerren Deal had the one yard touchdown plunge. Tucker Swenson had the first of two Governor interceptions stopping the Huron drive at the goal line and allowing the Governors go 98 yards down the field with a 34 yard catch from Carter Schiefelbein to go up 14-0. After Huron would score with a two point conversion, The Govs would get the ball at 28 yard line after Thomas Snyder had a big special teams return. Porter Hunsley scored from 11 yards out. With 16 seconds remaining the Govs would get the ball back and Hudson Stoeser would cap off the half with a 29 yard touchdown reception as time expired as he broke three tackles on his way to diving into the end zone for the score and it would be 28-8 at the half. Cooper Terwilliger would have a rushing touchdown and Schiefelbein added another touchdown reception and Carter Templeton had a 44 yard field goal and the Govs led 45-8 to start the running clock to the win. Pierre had 359 yards of offense as Deal would throw for 284 yards and three touchdowns with a rushing score. Cruz Williams also had an interception for the Governor defense who allowed just one score before the running clock even though the Govs allowed 300 yards.
Steele wins his 100th game in his 11th season as head coach of the Governors pushing his career record to 100-24 as Steele is also 27-2 in the playoffs through 10 playoffs. The Governors improve to 6-0 while Huron falls to 3-3. The Govs will host the Spearfish Spartans on Friday. Coverage begins at 6:30 with kickoff at 7:00 on KCCR and on YouTube at KCCR Sports.
