President Donald Trump says he has offered Iran nothing in exchange for ending the seven-month conflict, pushing back against reports that Washington could consider sanctions relief or the release of frozen Iranian funds.
Reuters reported that Trump rejected those accounts after other media outlets cited unidentified U.S. officials who said possible economic relief could be tied to concrete progress on Iran’s nuclear program. Trump has said preventing Tehran from obtaining a nuclear weapon remains a central U.S. objective.
Iran, meanwhile, is signaling that diplomacy remains possible. Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said Tehran is prepared to discuss its nuclear program and other issues, while maintaining that it will not accept coercion.
U.S. and Iranian officials have also held separate discussions with mediators as efforts continue to find a negotiated end to the fighting.
The Strait of Hormuz remains part of those discussions. Iranian officials have linked reopening the strategic waterway to an agreement, while continued regional tensions have disrupted energy supplies and contributed to higher oil prices.
