Pierre Governor rising senior, Cooper Terwilliger has announced what college he will attend to play football and Terwilliger will take his talents to Happy Valley and play for the Penn State Nittany Lions.
Terwilliger had interest from practically the entire country and had the choice to virtually go anywhere he wanted. The 6’5 235 pound tight end is in the top ten tight ends of the class of 2027 per Rivals. Terwilliger caught 38 passes for 549 yards and four touchdowns in his junior year as the Govs won the state championship for the eighth time in nine years. In his sophomore campaign, even with an injury that sidelined him for a few games, he caught 41 passes for 548 yards and four touchdowns. As good as his stats are, his blocking is top tier and Terwilliger can run block, pass block and be a part of the passing game which makes him such a threat and a high level prospect, on top of some of the intangibles which is his size.
Heading into the offseason, Terwilliger had announced his top four was Michigan, Nebraska, Iowa and Iowa State. Matt Campbell left Iowa State to take the job at Penn State and Terwilliger says nothing changed with the coaching staff and they wanted him to first be at Iowa State and then wanted him to be at Penn State…
Terwilliger says he had a great circle around him to help lead his decision to commit to Penn State…
Steve Steele, head coach of the Pierre Governors says Terwilliger has worked his way into being a legitimate top tier prospect…
Terwilliger is the fifth Division I football commit since the class of 2020 joining Grey Zabel (North Dakota State and now in the NFL), Lincoln Kienholz (Ohio State now at Louisville), Jason Maciejczak (Nebraska now at Wyoming) and Jett Zabel (North Dakota State). Terwilliger plans to graduate at the end of the fall semester in 2026 and head to Penn State starting in January of 2027.
