The Pierre Governor softball team lost a wild game on Tuesday with a total of 32 runs scoring between the two teams as Yankton would win 22-10 in five innings.
Pierre opened up the top of the first with a 1-0 lead on an Alivia Heymans sacrifice fly, but Yankton would score five runs in the first and second innings to lead 10-1 after two complete. However, the Govs would battle back to make it 10-8 in the top of third scoring seven runs as Pierre took advantage of three Yankton errors to score five runs with Millie Johnson and Presley Spies bringing home a run on singles. After a three run third, Yankton would score nine in the fourth to take the 22-10 lead and finishing off the win in the top of the fifth. Madison Musfelt and Brooklynn King each had four RBIs for Yankton while Ava Girard had three RBIs. Nine of the 10 hitters overall had at least one RBI and eight of the 10 hitters recorded a hit for the Gazelles. Taryn Spruill for Pierre had four RBIs while Ally Keyes would drive in two. Spies had three hits, but Pierre did not have an extra base hits in the nine in total. Yankton had six extra base hits with four doubles and two triples.
Yankton improves to 2-1 while Pierre drops to 1-1 as the Govs will be home on Tuesday to take on Watertown in what is now the home opener for Pierre.
