The Pierre Governor baseball team will get back to the field today in Mitchell to face the Kernels in a matinee doubleheader after Thursday’s games were called off because of weather.
Without school in session because of the Easter Holiday, Pierre and Mitchell will meet for a 1:00 first pitch which is the second straight year for a Monday matinee after Easter. The Governors, at 2-2 will look to get over .500 for the first time this season as Mitchell will play for the first time this season after also having Thursday’s games canceled whenever they were supposed to play Douglas. It’s the first of six games scheduled this week with the Govs heading to Sioux Falls to play Friday and Saturday at the Sanford Sports Complex against two in state games and two out of state games.
Pierre is averaging eight runs a game through the first four games of the season and have a run differential of +17 with its big wins over Tea and only two one run losses to Yankton. The Governor pitching staff has a team ERA of 3.23 and a WHIP of 1.35 and struck out 28 batters through the first four games of the year. Pierre, though, will look to clean up the defense heading into the doubleheader with a total of nine errors over the opening weekend.
