The Pierre Governor softball team returns to the field today to open up the 2026 season but will play inside the Aberdeen Dome facing the Aberdeen Central Golden Eagles.
While the temperatures are starting to cool off and weather conditions won’t be favorable to play outside the rest of the week, the Governors don’t have to worry about the conditions as Aberdeen Central is hosting Pierre inside the dome today to begin the season to eliminate any of the elements which as long as driving conditions can get you to Aberdeen and back, the game can be played without a hitch. Pierre went 4-17 last season as they are still building its program. The Govs return McKenzi Flottmeyer who had the best average of those returning hitting .361 with two doubles and three triples. Flottmeyer also had the most innings pitched and the only one of the two pitchers to return from last year’s team throwing 62 innings having an ERA of 8.81 and WHIP of 2.47. Ally Keyes returns having the team leading 12 RBIs with Charlotte Hull having 11 and Alivia Heymans having 10 as three of the four Governors with 10 plus RBIs return. Curt Littau takes over as head coach of the Governors and entering his first year as head coach and first year in the Pierre school district and he says he’s excited to get the season underway…
Being a mild winter, the Govs have been able to be outside for nearly every practice except the first couple of days and Littau it’s good to be outside more often than being inside…
Littau says playing clean softball is a key for a win in the opener…
First pitch is scheduled for 4:00 this afternoon at the Dome in Aberdeen.
