PIERRE, (KCCR) — Ziebach County is now under the Central South Dakota Enhancement District. The move happened by way of an executive order signed by South Dakota Governor Larry Rhoden on Wednesday. Planning and Development districts in the state were created in the late 1970’s by former Governor Frank Farrar. The Central South Dakota Enhancement District is based in Pierre and created in 2000. Counties can request changes by way of a vote at the County level. The Ziebach County Commission voted in favor of joining the Central South Dakota Enhancement District and the Enhancement District authorized accepting the county. Ziebach County has never been under such a planning and development district below. With the addition of Ziebach County, the Central South Dakota Enhancement District assists 11 counties and numerous municipalities within those counties. The District can assist members with technical assistance, project development, planning and management and the administration of services, programs and projects. There are six regional planning and development districts in South Dakota. With the addition of Ziebach County, all 66 South Dakota Counties fit under a planning and development district.
