The Pierre Governor Track and Field season got underway with the Ruth Marske indoor meet on Saturday in Brookings and Charlee Williams-Smith picked up two wins for Pierre including setting a new meet record.
Williams-Smith would win the 200 meters and 400 meters setting the new meet mark in the 400 with a time of 56.56. It’s the first record set for the 2026 track and field season. Overall the Governor girls had 11 top ten finishes while the boys had eight for a total of 19 in total. Other girls top ten finishes include Emlyn Swanson placing eighth in the 200, Emery Larson in third in the 1600 with Devyn Van Roekel in ninth. Swanson also was sixth in the long jump with Peyton Dillman placing sixth in the triple jump and Sorrine Ekle being seventh in the shot put. The team of Jasmine Jost, Ally Bauer, Brooke Hansen and Williams-Smith was 10th in the 4×100, Jost, Reed Curry, Ellen Hart and Josephine Wurtz was seventh in the 4×200 and Bauer, Curry, Gwen Richter and Swanson were sixth in the 4×400.
Caleb Morris had the best finish for the Governor boys placing third in the 800 meter run. Morris was also fifth in the 1600 run while Noah Calvert was fourth in the triple jump and tenth in the long jump. Lincoln Dilges was eighth in the 110 meter hurdles and tenth in the 300 meter hurdles. Karson Walti was tenth in the 100 meters and teamed up with George Rapp, Thomas Snyder and Jaden Ottenbacher to be seventh in the 4×100.
