Team South Dakota 14U girls would fall just short of making the USA Hockey National Championship with a 5-2 semifinal loss Saturday to the Seacoast Spartans of New Hampshire in Rochester, Michigan.
Seacoast would take a 2-0 lead at the end of the first period, but Team South Dakota would battle back to make it 2-1 after two with a goal from Sioux Falls’ Charlee Wehrspann. Mitchell’s Vaya Mimmack would tie the game at 2-2 on the power play with just over seven minutes remaining in the third. But a power play goal for Seacoast with just under five minutes to go would give them the lead and add on to make it 4-2 before an empty net goal would seal the win and advance to the final. Yankton’s Makenzie Brunick would stop 37 of 41 shots in the loss as Team South Dakota finishes the tournament at 3-2.
Oahe’s Mallory Lehrkamp finishes the tournament with three assists while Taylah Allerdings went 2-0 in net having a 1.00 goals against average with a .967% save percentage stopping 59 of 61 total shots.
