Team South Dakota 16U would have to play from behind on Friday to win 2-1 over Valley Jr. Warriors out of Massachusetts to win the pool and advance to Saturday’s quarterfinals.
Team South Dakota trailed 1-0 after the first and then still trailed at the start of the third period. But Sioux Falls’ Emma Honner would tie the game up barely a minute into the third and then net the game winning goal not even two minutes later with a perfectly placed pass of the boards from Oahe’s Ava Lavinger to beat the defense down the ice and allow Honner to get free for her second goal of the game as Brookings’ Avery Dentlinger stopped all 15 shots in the third period and 32 of the 33 shots in total as Team South Dakota goes 3-0 in pool play and will be the top seed and play at 8:15 Saturday morning against the two seed of the NHL division. If Team South Dakota wins they will advance to play at 5:00 Saturday night in the semifinals.
Team South Dakota will play one of the Boston Jr. Eagles, Steel City Selects or the Canton Blades at 8:15 Saturday morning.
