The Pierre Governor baseball team is going to open the season out east this season as the Govs will take on the Yankton Bucks Saturday and then the Tea Titans on Sunday.
The Governors and Bucks did not play during last year’s high school baseball season and only met just once, during the Legion state tournament in a 3-2 nine inning loss for the Eights to end their season. Pierre finished the high school year at 17-8 falling in the regional round while the Bucks went 23-6 and advanced to the state tournament before losing in the quarterfinals to the Jefferson Cavaliers who were the runners up to Brandon Valley.
On Sunday, the Governors will play Tea for the first time in history as Pierre will be wanting to end the weekend on a high note. Tea went 5-17 last season and were swept by Lincoln in the region round as the Titans look to build its program in Class A. Scott Raue, head coach of the Pierre Governors says both these teams will be a challenge to start the season…
Pitching is always the forefront for any team, but heading into a season, the question is how long guys will pitch and how quickly can they find a rhythm. Raue says the guy’s arms are in shape and ready to go…
Raue says a big key is to throw strikes and stay ahead of counts…
Coverage Saturday begins at 12:45 with first pitch at 1:00 on KCCR and on YouTube at KCR Sports. Sunday’s doubleheader will start on YouTube only at 11:45 and first pitch at 12:00. The game will be on the radio once the church service is completed. Jon Winkler will have the call of both doubleheaders.
