Team South Dakota 14U would bounce back on Thursday to pick up a 3-1 win over the New Jersey Colonials to even its record at 1-1 heading into the final pool play game on Friday.
Team South Dakota grabbed its first lead of the game when Sioux Falls’ Charlee Wehrspann would make it 1-0, but it would be tied at one after the first period. Sioux Center’s Maci Cannegeiter continues to have a great tournament for Team SD as she would get her second goal of the tournament in the second period on the power play. Leading 2-1 and with the goalie pulled, Cannegeiter would get her second of the game on the empty net to seal the win as Oahe’s Mallory Lehrkamp grabbed her first point of the tournament with the assist along with Mitchell’s Vaya Mimmack. Oahe’s Taylah Allerdings would get the win in net stopping 23 of 24 shots.
Team South Dakota will finish pool play on Friday at 5:00 against Traverse City, Northstars out of Michigan. Team SD will need to finish inside the top four of the American standings to advance to single elimination tournament which begins on Saturday.
