PIERRE, (KCCR) — While the deadline is nearing for legislative and county races those deadlines are passing on the local level. In Pierre, only Steve Harding and Todd Johnson have turned in petitions to seek the Pierre mayor position. Harding is the incumbent Mayor and is being challenged by Johnson, a current City Commissioner. In Fort Pierre there will be three races for the four open seats available. Mayor Gloria Hanson is being challenged by Ward I Council member Greg Kenzy. As for Council seats, Ward I incumbent Larry Cronin is facing a challenge by local businessman Kevin Tiger. Ward III has incumbent Rick Cronin facing challenger Kristin Gabriel. In Ward II, incumbent Council member Scott Deal did not turn in petitions opening the door for Mike Jacobson to fill that seat as Jacobson was the only person seeking to challenge Deal. For Pierre School Board, three District residents have taken out petitions to fill Dan Cronin’s seat. They include Madisyn Neibauer, George Seamon, Jr. and Rochelle Kenzy. The election for all races mentioned is June 2nd.
