PIERRE, (KCCR) — A former District 24 legislator is making it a five-way race for the District 24 House. Tim Rounds had his petitions approved and filed March 20th. He joins incumbent Mike Weisgram and challengers Laurie Gill and Regan Bollweg in the battle for District 24’s two House seats. Rounds served in the House from 2003 to 2011 before term limits took over. He returned to the House in 2013 and departed in 2021. Brian Burge has announced a campaign but has not returned petitions yet. In District 23, which includes Hand and Potter Counties, a House primary is being set up there. Amber Werdel and Dick Werner have submitted petitions to seek House seats. Werner is no stranger to the South Dakota House. Living in Huron, Werner served District 22 from 2013 to 2017 before losing a primary in 2016. There will also be a primary in District 28-B. Larry Schmaltz has turned in petitions to challenger Travis Ismay. District 28 is a split House district. District 28-A includes Dewey and Ziebach Counties. District 28-A includes part of Perkins and all of Harding and Butte Counties. Prospective candidates have until March 31st to submit petitions for the June 2nd primary.
