The Black Hills State Yellow Jackets will be playing in the Division II Elite Eight today taking on Nova Southeastern in the third game of the day in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
The Yellow Jackets are the eight seed and will face the top seeded Sharks in the Elite Eight when all eight teams are reseeded for the quarterfinals. Black Hills State had to have two upset wins to reach the Elite Eight when BH beat Lubbock Christian 67-64 in the first round as the six seed beat the three seed in it’s region. Black Hills State then beat St. Mary’s of Texas 78-60, knocking off the seven seed who beat the two seed. Then the Yellow Jackets upset the top seeded Dallas Baptist 76-62. Black Hills State is 30-4 and have won 13 straight heading into tonight’s game. Nova Southeastern comes in at 30-1 and have won 24 straight.
These two teams have met just once, in 2022 in this exact same position in Evansville when Black Hills State beat Nova Southeastern 77-67 in the Division II Elite Eight when the Sharks were the top seed and Black Hills State being number eight. The Yellow Jackets will look to pull off the upset again and reach the Final Four which will be played on Thursday.
Gannon faces Michigan Tech in the 3-6 matchup at 11:00 AM, followed by Cal St. East Bay facing Oklahoma Baptist at 1:30 before BH and Nova Southeastern battle at 5:00 and then Daemen takes on Lander in the 4-5 game at 7:30. The game will be at UPMC Cooper Center in Pittsburgh.
